Last weekend I had the honor of speaking at the first annual Women in Apologetics Conference at Biola University. In today's podcast you can listen in on my talk,  "Almost the Real Thing: How Progressive Christianity Has Hijacked the Gospel." (The first few seconds of the talk didn't get recorded.)

Your presentation was really impressive in its organization and clarity. It's kinda funny how you describe having once been ignorant of the intellectual side of Christianity, because it's obvious that you now have a lot of experience with it. Usually when I listen to apologists speak it's like nails on a chalkboard with the misinformation, but I couldn't find a single point of disagreement with you in anything that you said in your talk. (Although maybe I would quibble a bit about the dating of that creed---but just a quibble.)

So, anyway, nice job.

But I'm saddened by some of what you said. Your comments about homosexuality, for instance, really struck me. I get where you're coming from, insofar as you believe the Bible is the Word of God, and so you have to take that seriously. And this sets you up to oppose loving relationships between people. Probably you don't go beyond a silent disapproval and so it's not really harmful or anything. But, as I said, it's saddening. I'm sure you have the best intentions, but your beliefs about the Bible have (IMO) twisted their expression.

Hi Ben, thanks for your kind comments....and I totally understand where you're coming from regarding the homosexuality statements....it's very difficult to only be able to throw in a couple of things without being able to fully flesh them out. (Especially when it directly relates to the hearts of actual people.) I wrote a bit more about this here:

https://www.alisachilders.com/blog/reflections-on-the-jen-hatmaker-controversy-why-we-cant-agree-to-disagree-about-homosexuality

And I spoke a bit with Joey at the Bad Christian Podcast about it here:

I'm sure we still may not agree, but I hope this will help you understand a bit more where I'm coming from. Thanks!

Thank you for the links.

I have to say, that "Bad Christian" podcast was terrible. Not your fault of course. But holy cow I've never heard such an annoying group of podcasters!

I used to do a podcast a few years ago with a philosopher friend of mine, but it didn't get much traction. Every now and again I wish we would do another episode. I think it would be interesting to talk to you, for instance. But it would be kinda pointless without listeners.

So I was listening to this podcast...and I wanted to look up some stuff about Progressive Christianity. But that site was like sheesh. . .what a bunch of new age garble. That breed of progressives, aren't even Christians really. . .talking about ''one-ness'' with the world. It's like stop calling yourselves Christians, what is the point? They should just call themselves new age universalist skeptics.
