The Alisa Childers Podcast · #88 Answering Progressive Christian Memes: Is it a Sin to Cuss, Be Gay, Have an Abortion?

Recently, a progressive Christian meme made the rounds that stated 22 beliefs about God, Christians, the nature of heaven and hell, and the exclusivity of Christianity. I asked Mike Winger to join me to help us think through these statements and analyze them through a biblical lens.

Hey there, I’ve been searching to find the 22 beliefs about God, Christians, the nature of heaven and hell, and the exclusivity of Christianity and can’t seem to find anything. Could you provide a link?

Alisa,

I remember seeing your dad when he was in Love Song singing at Calvary Chapel in the early 70s. He knows me as the artist of the Hollywood Free Paper for a period of time, and I lived and pastored a church in the San Fernando Valley (Hope Chapel), and last saw your dad seated next to me on an airport transit van ride from the valley to LAX. Your dad showed me his newest "toy" --a tape player with a variable speed so he could listen to teaching tapes in half the time.

Thank-you for this important book. I remember seeing Rob Bell's Nooma video series (I still have all of them) and thought he was such an excellent communicator. Also, it's worth noting that Rob Bell started Mars Hill Church in Grand Rapids and his first year of Sunday sermons were an expository journey through Leviticus. How many young pastors (or old pastors) would take their church filled with young people, through Leviticus week in and week out? Having said that, it is sad and almost unbelievable to realize that he has turned his back on the faith, on all that he taught regarding the Law and the blood sacrifice. Now, he mocks the idea of a blood sacrifice and atonement for our sins.

One other thing is that I was a subscribed to Christianity Today from the mid-1970s until 2012 when I began to notice CT accomodating, even courting young progressive "Christians." As you have stated, there is nothing "Christian" about progressive Christianity. I have other thoughts which I'll share in another post. Thank-you again for your much-needed book.
